How To: Finding Junk Emails

The third in a series demonstrating effective control of Spam in MS Outlook.

Finding Junk Emails

Once you have activated the Junk E-mail Filter, all emails identified as spam/junk will be delivered to your Junk folder. Below is a picture of my Outlook folders – yours may look different.

I have a LOT of personal email folders in my inbox! Notice that the Junk folder is not part of the Inbox. It is located at the very bottom of my personal folders, fifth position from the bottom of the entire list. All email identified as spam/junk will be placed in there, and a number in square parenthesis e.g. [2] will show in green after the words Junk E-mail when unread emails are in that folder.

It is important to check the Junk folder occasionally, as sometimes genuine emails are delivered there by mistake. This can happen if senders email multiple people at the same time. At first, you may need to give the computer some assistance in identifying every junk/spam email. With the spam filter turned onto High, it is most likely it will identify safe emails as spam occasionally. If this happens, go into the Junk folder and right-click on the email, and choose whether to say the sender, or their domain is safe.
